What it is:

Removal of excess skin from the abdomen
(NOTE: Not recommended for people who plan on losing 25 pounds or more)

People with:

  • Loose or excess skin on their abdomen
  • A separation between the muscles in the middle of their abdomen (diastasis)

Average is 1 week; some people may return to work or school in less than a week, while others may take 2 weeks to recover

  • Return immediately to non-strenuous activities which do not raise your heart rate or blood pressure, and won’t result in breaking into a sweat
  • Resume strenuous activities in 2 weeks, with the exception of heavy lifting
  • No heavy lifting (more than 10 pounds) for 6 weeks
  • If a drainage tube is inserted, it is usually removed within 1 to 2 weeks
  • You will need to wear an abdominal binder for 4 to 6 weeks after surgery
  • You may shower 48 hours after surgery
  • There are no stitches to remove
